Are you still wondering what it takes to achieve a lifetime of happiness? Is it your career? Is it the money? Don't worry, it's not a mystery. In this Story Vlog, we will explore the three reasons you need to fulfil so that you can get the happiness that you deserve. Remember, you owe this to yourself to find out!

This episode is more about personal development instead of the business storytelling topics I write about every week.

Believe it or not, half of my conversations with friends have something to do with unfulfilling jobs and the dreaded quarter-life crisis or some form of it such as:
  • Whats wrong with me?
  • Why am I not motivated to do things?
  • Why do my colleagues suck?
  • Why can't I get a good partner?

If you are looking for the change to achieve a lifetime of happiness, this episode may help to start the conversation.

Don't bitc# about your work-life balance and not do anything, do something!

The three reasons you need to fulfil for a lifetime of happiness are:

  1. Time

  2. Money

  3. Love

The topics are actually simple in nature because everyone understands them, but I think few people actually have all three in their life now.

The problem is we all live very different lives and it's hard to understand what your friends go through in person.

I hope that by breaking it down, you can spend more time to discuss how to take action and work on getting results rather than merely just lending an ear to your friends.

Part 1: Time

Let's start with time because every single person on Earth is bound by this physical limitation no matter who you are or where you come from.

We are all bound by 168 hours each week of which a third or 56 hours are spent on resting or sleeping which leaves us 112 hours of active time.

Now that seems like a lot until you factor in work, commuting, and eating which are the three definite areas that will eat up most of your time.

That leaves you with very little time for the things that you actually want to do.

So my question to you is how much time do you have each week for things that you actually want to do?

Is that time sufficient to keep you happy in your week to week cycle?

Think about time with family, friends, travelling, gaming, gymming, your Netflix or Iflix.

If you don't spend enough time on doing the things you want to do, then shuffle things around a bit to get more time for yourself.

Own your time, don't let it own you.

Part 2: Money

They say that money buys happiness. I think so, but I will leave that to another day for debate.

That being said,  you should also know that Singapore is the richest country in the region but it also has the highest rate of work dissatisfaction with almost one in two experiencing some form of unhappiness at work. Go figure.

People will only complain when they are not earning the amount they want.

Not earning enough or having a big financial burden can be a very stressful circumstance to deal with.

Think about your current situation.

Are you earning enough money and also saving enough money to support your lifestyle for your lifetime?

Otherwise, do you have plans to improve your current state such as a side job, investments or you're taking extra training to become more qualified in your career progression?

How much to earn is a subjective figure, but most will agree that it means having bills paid off, with extras for savings and for shopping.

Earning enough means living a self-sustaining lifestyle that you can afford now, and have a little more to invest and grow your asset for a brighter future.

If you have lot's of time but no money, there's no point. Find the right balance to trade time for money first.

Do your research to improve your financial literacy as it is key to your freedom.

Oh, and if you're job hunting, dont forget to watch our previous blog post about how to get a job that pays double the average salary.

Part 3: Love

When we talk about love, it means very different things depends on who you're asking.

For me personally, love means having something to look forward to and a reason to get out of bed.

Think about events with friends and family, travel or business.

We know that we need time and money to spend on the things that we love doing.

If you're feeling stuck or a little lost, the best place to start is to rediscover your love.

Whether it is in finding companionship, starting a hobby or a business or travelling.

You need something fulfilling, a strong desire to work so hard for something you love and wouldn't trade for anything else.

What you have found your reason for love, figure out how to balance your time and your money to achieve what you love

For most people, having all three in your life is not easy, in fact, it is rather rare to have all three at once.

Having time, money and love should be seen as a work in progress for a lifetime of happiness.

Most people that I talk to have two out of three in their life now.

If you have just one or none, please reach to people you trust to dig deep and find the three reasons for your lifetime of happiness.

You can always change for the better.

Here is a famous quote by Jim Rohn:

"If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much."
